Adult Program Coordinator, Full-time
The Downers Grove Public Library is seeking a friendly, customer service-oriented individual with excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a busy environment to join the library’s Adult & Teen Services department as the Adult Program Coordinator.
The Adult Program Coordinator, an integral part of the Adult & Teen Services team, is a librarian who is primarily responsible for creating, preparing, and conducting adult programming as well as coordinating related publicity with marketing staff. This position also works closely with other department coordinators towards cohesive library-wide goals. In addition, this position is responsible for selecting and maintaining assigned adult collection areas and providing reference and readers’ advisory to both adults and teens.
This full-time position requires expertise typically acquired through completion of a Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science and previous experience providing programs for adults, or any combination of training and experience that establishes the knowledge, abilities, and skills to:
- Create and coordinate programming for adults of all ages that is equitable, inclusive, and responsive to the wants and needs of all members of our community
- Train and coordinate staff activities in providing adult programming
- Plan and lead a very popular Summer Reading Club and other programs
Hourly pay is from $24.90 - $28.01, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include vacation leave, personal leave, and sick leave, a generous insurance package, and enrollment in the IMRF pension system.
The Adult Program Coordinator will be scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Tuesday 1 p.m. - 9:15 p.m., and weekend and Friday night rotations. Children’s Services Library Clerk, Part-time
Are you interested in working with children and learning about children’s literature? Do you love organizing and keeping things neat and tidy? Do you thrive in a busy and fast-paced environment? The Kids Room at the Downers Grove Public Library is looking for you!
The Kids Room is looking for two enthusiastic and friendly part-time Library Clerks to join our team. Library Clerks perform clerical tasks, assist with the creation of program materials and displays, and help maintain the appearance of the Kids Room department.
The ideal candidates are:
- Organized, detailed-oriented, and accurate in their work
- Committed to helping maintain a clean and orderly environment
- Interested in working with people, especially children, and providing excellent customer service
- Experienced in using computers and software for basic tasks
- Able to work independently on assigned projects and has good time management skills
These openings are for year-round, part-time positions averaging 10.5 hours per week. The two position schedules are as follows:
Position A: Thursday evenings 5-9:15 p.m. and two full weekends per month (Saturday and Sunday afternoons)
Position B: Monday and Friday evenings 5-9:15 p.m. and one full weekend per month (Saturday and Sunday afternoons)

Library Shelver, Part-time
Are you passionate about providing excellent customer service to the community? Are you enthusiastic about working with a friendly and collaborative staff? Do you embrace advances in technology? If so, come join our team.
Downers Grove Public Library is seeking a friendly, enthusiastic shelver for our customer service-focused Circulation team. Shelvers monitor the automatic materials sorter, shelve materials, and keep materials in order. In addition, shelvers help support the department by performing closing procedures and other tasks as needed.
We are looking for candidates who have the ability to:
- Correctly file alphabetically and numerically
- Complete detailed work accurately
- Prioritize and multitask in a busy environment
- Walk and stand for extended periods
- Lift materials and push carts loaded with books
- Adapt well to technological changes
This position is a year-round, part-time position averaging 16 hours per week. The hours for the position are Mondays 5-9:15 p.m.; Thursdays 5-9:15 p.m.; Fridays 1-5 p.m., and includes Saturday and Sunday rotations of four-hour shifts. The salary is $13.00 per hour.

Building Operations Monitor, Full-time
The Downers Grove Public Library (DGPL) is seeking a friendly, customer service-oriented individual to serve as Building Operations Monitor. This position maintains a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all while prioritizing the library’s values and objectives in the implementation of safety procedures to ensure the library is a place for everyone to discover, grow, play, and learn. The Building Operations Monitor should be accustomed to working with customers and staff from diverse backgrounds and committed to supporting DGPL with its equity, diversity, and inclusion work.
The successful candidate will:
- Ensure the safety of the building, patrons, and staff by making frequent visits throughout the entire facility and grounds
- Proactively address behavior that violates the library’s Code of Conduct in a manner that is consistent with the library’s values and practices
- Think critically, remain calm and respectful, and adapt quickly during unexpected or difficult situations
- Deescalate stressful situations through the use of trauma-informed crisis intervention practices, empathy-driven customer service, and an equity lens
- Engage with library patrons to enhance their library experience
- Be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, lift 50 lbs, and work outdoors
Two years’ experience working with the public in safety is preferred but not required. The hourly pay rate starts from $17.84, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include vacation leave, personal leave, sick leave, and enrollment in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension program.
The Building Operations Monitor will be scheduled for 37.5 hours weekly which includes weekend rotations.
