Job Opportunities

The Downers Grove Public Library is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status.

The library is not currently hiring. There are no open positions.

Directory Submission: Local Tutor

Are you a local tutor that can help students? Click here to submit information to be included in the library's database of local tutors. The information collected will be shared with the Downers Grove community of students. By adding your information to this list, the Downers Grove Public Library does not endorse or sponsor any specific tutor or business. Our directory is a tool for students and caregivers to use at their own discretion. All communication, fee negotiation, scheduling, background verification, etc. must occur between tutor and client. Tutors will be listed in alphabetical order by last name. Tutors must be 18+.

Volunteer Opportunities

Help the library with its programs and services! Volunteers can help in the Kids Room, Adult and Teen Services, Circulation, and Public Relations.

Volunteering in the Kids Room

Adult Volunteers (18+)

The Kids Room is always accepting applications from adults to volunteer in the STEM room for guided STEM time. Volunteers serve in the Kids Room once a month for 90 minutes, demonstrating a hands-on STEM activity for kids. The Kids Room provides all training, so volunteers do not need a STEM background in order to volunteer. Interested adults should fill out a library volunteer application and turn it in at the Kids Room desk.

School Year Volunteering

Kids in grades five through eight who are looking for volunteer hours to fulfill a specific volunteer requirement can contact KidsDesk@dglibrary.org. If no opportunities are available, volunteer names will be kept on file for the duration of the school year.

Summer Reading Volunteers

Kids entering grades five through 12 who would like volunteer hours during the summer can volunteer to work our Summer Reading Club prize desk. Volunteers are required to work at least three 90-minute shifts throughout the summer, handing out prizes to Summer Reading Club participants. More information, including sign-up and orientation dates, will be available in April and May.

The library accepts volunteer applications, which are kept on file for six months. There are a limited number of volunteer positions available and when an opening occurs, the applications in the file are checked for appropriate candidates to be interviewed for the position.
