Organization of the Month

Last year, Bridge Communities provided transitional housing to over 130 homeless families in DuPage County. This award-winning organization works with partners to provide mentoring, housing, and supportive services. Volunteers help families work toward a more stable future by teaching skills such as money management and how to improve job skills. You can help these families make a new start by donating household products from March 4 – 17 in the library's lobby.

Over 850 homeless families in the past 30 years have found housing and the skills they need to become self-sufficient through the dedicated work of Bridge Communities. Working with community partners, Bridge Communities has a mission to transition homeless families to self-sufficiency by providing mentoring, housing, and supportive services.

In 2015, Bridge Communities was listed as a Top 20 Charities in Chicago by Chicago Magazine and in 2016 it earned the Neighborhood Builder Award from Bank of America. Bridge Communities was founded in 1988 after founders Mark Milligan and Bob Wahlgren met families in shelters while volunteering.

"Everyone at Bridge has made my children feel welcomed. The staff and mentors go out of their way to promote a positive environment so my children can feel comfortable and succeed. The organization truly cares about their client families, and you can see it in their actions and support.” - a Bridge Community client.
