Children’s Services Summer Library Clerk (Temporary)

Each summer, thousands of children and their families visit the Kids Room to participate in both the Summer Reading Club and the department’s numerous program offerings.  To assist during this busy time, the Kids Room is seeking a temporary Summer Library Clerk.  The Summer Library Clerk helps children and their caregivers register and receive prizes for the Summer Reading Club, works on a variety of special summer projects, and helps maintain the appearance of the department by picking up materials and keeping items clean.  Candidates should be ready to jump into a busy atmosphere with enthusiasm.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Organized, detailed-oriented, and accurate in their work
  • Excited about working with people, especially children, in a fast-paced and busy environment
  • Adept at using computers for basic tasks
  • Able to work independently on assigned projects and has good time management skills

This opening is for a temporary, part-time summer position averaging 15-20 hour per week, for approximately 10-12 weeks.  Hours may include some nights and weekends. The salary is $12.00 per hour. Candidates must be 16 years old to apply. See the complete job description here.

Public Relations Manager

Our busy, highly automated, customer-focused library is seeking a motivated self-starter who is passionate about serving the Downers Grove community. Acting as a true library ambassador, the Public Relations Manager spearheads community engagement, builds partnerships, and oversees public relations activities. Candidates should be interested in connecting people and resources by coordinating efforts with other organizations to extend the reach of each. The goals of our Strategic Plan are integral this job.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Knowledgeable about the Downers Grove community and the services of DGPL
  • A quick learner, able to adapt to and implement new procedures with a smile
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Able to maintain varying stages of many different types of partnerships at once
  • A team player, as part of the Library management team and as facilitator of partnerships and engagement
  • Creative and enthusiastic, able to envision new partnerships and the concrete actions needed to make them happen

This full-time position requires expertise typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in public relations, communications, or related degree and experience in community organizations and/or building partnerships. Salary from $62,000.00 DOQ. A generous benefits package is included.
