Did you know that reading to young children helps make them better students? Since formal public education does not typically start until age five, parents and caregivers are the first education providers to kids ages zero – five. Reading just one book per day for one year equals 365 books read—and is a direct indicator of academic success.
To encourage reading efforts with your children, we’re joining the 1,000 Books before Kindergarten movement for our youngest book lovers. Our goal is to provide a simple yet fun approach to establishing strong early literacy skills and giving children the confidence necessary to become readers.
Beginning January 22, pick up a folder at the Kids Room Desk and use it to track the number of books read to your infant, toddler, or preschooler. Every time you read (or reread!) 100 books, pick up a prize and get your next sheet. We’ll be cheering you on all the way to 1,000!
